Affiliate & Editorial Disclosure

Last updated: 2026-04-23

Affiliate links

Some of the outbound links in our journal articles and pillar guides are affiliate links. If you click through one of those links and buy something, we earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This is how the content side of the business pays its bills.

Who we're affiliated with

Active affiliate programs, as of 2026-04-23:

  • Amazon Associates (US)

What we won't take

  • No paid placement in journal articles.
  • No brand sponsorship that alters editorial opinion.
  • No free products in exchange for positive coverage. We buy the gear we review with our own money except where a maker sends a sample for a review — in which case the review discloses it inline.
  • No undisclosed "partner posts" dressed up as editorial.

FTC compliance

Per 16 CFR Part 255 (the FTC's Endorsement Guides), every article that contains at least one affiliate link displays a clear disclosure above the fold. Product recommendations are based on our own experience with the gear or verifiable third-party reporting, and we say so when we haven't personally used something.

Editorial independence

We never earn affiliate commission on our own products — affiliate links are strictly for gear we don't carry. If an item is in the shop, the link to it is not an affiliate link.
